We have been extremely pleased with the overwhelming feedback we have received from everyone who attended our guest speaker event, on Thursday 12th June, featuring Pen Hadow (the record breaking Polar Explorer) who was our leading speaker.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved in making this such a successful evening.
Location: The Institute of Directors, 116 Pall Mall, London
This event was to celebrate the fantastic achievements of Jenrick CPI within the last 12 months, culminating in our 3* Best Companies Accreditation and our 7th Place in the Sunday Times Best 100 Companies to work for, Award.
Why Pen Hadow?
Peter Jezeph, M.D. of Jenrick CPI, briefly explained:
"We were determined to find a guest speaker who could bridge all interests, backgrounds and personalities - and immediately Pen's name was mentioned, we knew he would be ideal. He speaks from experience and with passion about his record breaking achievements - and shows the determination and perseverance required to realise these goals. He will also give us an insight into his expedition in February 2009 to measure the thickness of the Arctic ice cap - The Arctic Survey."
Who is Pen Hadow?
Pen shot to international fame in 2003 when, after fifteen years of unrelenting effort, he finally achieved his goal to become the first person to trek solo, without outside assistance, from Canada to the North Geographic Pole - a feat thought comparable to making the first ascent of Everest, solo and without oxygen, and one which has not been repeated since.
Within months, he went on to become the only Briton to have trekked, without assistance, to both the North and South Poles.
It is in these pristine and vulnerable environments that Pen has witnessed for himself the first signs of the changes that lie ahead for us all, resulting from global warming.
The Times Newspaper hailed him as the ‘thinking man’s explorer’ - which sums up his 2009 expedition perfectly - The Arctic Survey (Detailed on our website).
Pen’s emotive autobiography ‘SOLO’ was one of Penguin’s leading Christmas titles, and was voted ‘Book of the Week’ by The Sunday Times.
Pen has also been credited by the Radio Times as a ‘dynamic new talent in broadcasting’, a career sparked off by his interview on BBC Radio 4’s celebrated ‘Desert Island Discs’.
